Social Work Job Vacancies in Wirral

Wirra County is a wonderful place to live and work. Bordering the River Mersey, the Irish Sea and the River Dee, the Merseyside borough offers plenty of history, culture, countryside, and outdoor sports and adventures. Thanks to its peninsula location, Wirral has quiet sandy beaches, lush country parks (like Birkenhead Park, which inspired New York’s Central Park), and off-shore islands inhabited with rare marine wildlife.

For the history buffs, the Birkenhead Priory, the oldest building on Merseyside, the 19th century Port Sunlight Museum and Garden Village, and the U-Boat Story, a historic World War II ship-turned-interactive museum, are all worth a visit. The borough is also a golfing hotspot, boasting over 14 beautiful golf courses. Wirral is easy to reach from Liverpool and Chester via bus and rail.

With plenty of fantastic roles from which to choose, let us tell you why Wirral Council is a great place for you to be a social worker.

All About Wirral Council

Wirral Council is the local authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral in Merseyside. It comprises 66 councilors, 3 for each of the 22 electoral wards in the borough. These wards include Birkenhead and Tranmere, Clatterbridge, Eastham Seacombe, Upton, and Wallasey. In addition to offering its constituents a range of excellent services, Wirral Council’s main aims are to drive economic growth, protect its most vulnerable residents, and improve the local environment.

Wirral Council’s main Social Services include:

Child Protection: Where members of the public can report children who they believe are suffering from harm, abuse, or neglect, and ensure that at-risk children will receive the safeguarding and support they desperately need. While improvements can still be made, a recent Ofcom inspection found that “the quality of services for children has improved in all areas since the last inspection in 2016.”

Fostering: Where potential foster parents can learn about what it takes to become a foster parent, apply to become a foster parent, and receive support and guidance from Wirral Council, including training, peer mentoring, and financial support.

Adoption: Where the Wirral Council recruits, prepares, assesses, and supports adopters. Wirral Council’s adoption service is now part of Adoption in Merseyside (AiM), a regional adoption agency that also includes local authorities from Knowsley, Liverpool, and Sefton.
